Junior Legal Consultant

Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) is a complex and dynamic conservation concern that threatens ecosystems, causes biodiversity loss, risks human health, erodes culture, and undermines legitimate governance and economies. The Counter Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) Programme of WCS-India works to conserve wildlife threatened by IWT through evidence-based approaches and collaboration with stakeholders.

We are looking to hire two Junior Legal Consultants to develop reports and update resource materials for projects related to illegal wildlife trade in India.

Technical Intern - CWT

Illegal wildlife trade driven by demand for wild animals as exotic pets poses serious threats to populations of wild species, human health through the risk of spread of zoonotic diseases, local ecosystems through the risk of invasive species, and the welfare of individual animals impacted by trade. In India, the exotic pet trade is seemingly increasing, with native and non-native species impacted. Through this project, we aim to understand legal and illegal trade in wildlife as exotic pets, including species impacted and drivers of demand.

The Counter Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) Programme is looking to hire an Intern to work with us for three months on a project related to trade in wildlife as exotic pets.
