Location: Bengaluru (With frequent travel to Maharashtra and Goa field sites)

Reports to: Project Manager (Coral Reefs) 

Desired Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience 

Position Type: Fixed-term employment. 

About the Project: The project aims to safeguard coral reef habitats encircling the Grande Island complex, Goa, and Sindhudurg Fort, Malvan. We examine how tourism, and other commercially important or livelihood-dependent activities interact with the reef, and the functional roles governing the habitats’ ability to resist increasing natural and anthropogenic pressures. Parallelly, we engage and collaborate with local stakeholders to develop capacity and stewardship towards managing pressures faced by their urban reef habitats. 

About the Position: We encourage applications from candidates with a minimum of 2 years' experience on projects involving coral reef habitats and stakeholder engagement. The project associate will work with the existing coral reef team and is expected to co-lead field activities, carry out research studies, and maintain project-stakeholder relations. Additionally, the project associate will also support project management activities and other programmatic deliverables.  

Role and Responsibility:  

  • Design and execute underwater surveys with support from team members. 

  • Conduct community engagement and stakeholder workshop activities at project sites. 

  • Conduct necessary desk-based reviews, compile project reports, and guide outreach deliverables 

  • Deliver on scientific and/or popular articles as per project deliverables. 

  • Ensure the timely completion of activities and project deliverables in collaboration with program members 

  • Collaborate with members of the Marine Programme and WCS-India on administrative and outward facing activities.  

Required Qualification and Skills:  

Essential Requirement:  

  • Master’s degree in Zoology, Marine Biology, and/or allied Wildlife Sciences 

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience on projects involving coral reef habitats and stakeholder engagement.  

  • Demonstrated experience in managing field activities, project reporting, and research database. 

  • Minimum Advance Open Water SCUBA Certification. 

  • Language proficiency: English 

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office 

Desired Qualification and Skills:  

  • Demonstrated experience in coral reef monitoring surveys and science/popular writing.  

  • Prior experience in producing creatives – e.g., infographics, posters, and other outreach material.  

  • Fluency in analytical and exploratory software such as R, QGIS, or ArcGIS. 

  • Desired Language Proficiency: Konkani and/ or Marathi
