Thomas Breuer
Project Director
Thomas Breuer has completed his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany on male reproductive success in western gorillas. Proir to that he completed adiploma thesis on the feeding ecology and conservation of African wild dogs in Cameroon. Thomas Breuer is interested in great ape and carnivores and the importance of behavioral ecology for conservation. Furthermore he is interested in community based conservation with a strong emphasis on environmental education. Thomas Breuer has been the principal investigator of the Mbeli Bai Study, northern Congo since 2002. Thomas has also been leading the local conservation education program Club Ebobo in the villages surrounding the park. Since February 2010 he is WCS´ Project Director for Nouabale-Ndoki National Park.Thomas has been working in several countries in Central Africa since 1998. He has published several peer-reviewed articles, most notably the first observation of tool use in wild gorillas.
