WCS Applauds Historic, Groundbreaking US Ivory Ban  美国政府颁布象牙禁令,WCS为这一历史性时刻喝彩

June 2, 2016 – WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), founder of the 96 Elephants campaign, applauded the Obama Administration’s announcement of a near-total ban on the interstate trade in ivory. The final revision for of the 4(d) rule of the Endangered Species Act for African elephants allows for exceptions for items containing de minimis amounts of ivory and documented antiques.

Reflections by a Conservationist Watching 100 Tonnes of Ivory Burn

Nairobi National Park, Kenya, April 30, 2016 -- The fires are now lit on 100 tonnes of ivory, and as the plumes of smoke swirl into the grey skies, Kenya is turning up the heat to stop the trafficking of elephant ivory. The attention this ivory destruction has created – with presidents and celebrities alike gathering to witness this somber event – ensures that this message will spread far and wide. This burn is designed to help galvanize African and global support to close all ivory markets. When the smoke clears from today, attention will turn to the 17th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Johannesburg in September. INDONESIA WILDLIFE TRADERS ON THE RUN: WCS Says Illegal Traders are Changing Location Due to Increased Enforcement

NEW YORK (APRIL 14, 2016) WCS’s Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) said that interrogations from recent arrests of wildlife traders in Indonesia indicate that illegal activities are shifting to the eastern part of the country due to better enforcement in the west.

March 3, 2016 – The online trade in ivory and related wildlife products is rampant in Hawaii, which remains one of the United States’ major markets for ivory, according to a new report by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Humane Society International (HSI), The Humane Society of the United States(HSUS), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Republic of Congo Becomes 11th Nation to Join Elephant Protection Initiative
January 13, 2016 – The Republic of the Congo has confirmed that it will join the Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI), the  African-led conservation programme to eradicate the ivory trade and stop the continued slaughter of the continent’s elephants by poachers.

SNAP partnership convenes world’s biggest study of China’s illegal trade in ivory
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA/BEIJING, CHINA, December 16, 2015 –The Science for Nature and People (SNAP) partnership announced it has convened a new Expert Working Group, which will result in one of the most comprehensive studies to date of China’s illegal trade in ivory.

WCS Delivers Hundreds of Thousands of Ivory Ban Comments to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

WASHINGTON (Oct. 1, 2015) – This week, WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) delivered 164,238 comments, organized through the 96 Elephants campaign, to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) calling for the closure of the commercial ivory trade in the United States.
