Justine Shanti Alexander
Country Director
Justine Shanti Alexander is the Country Director at WCS Mongolia program. Over the past decade, she has dedicated herself to building partnerships at both national and local levels for the conservation of threatened species across High Asia, with a specific focus on Mongolia and China. Her conservation work revolves around bridging research, community programming, and international collaborations to strengthen conservation outcomes. One issue that holds great significance for her is finding inclusive solutions that prioritize the voices of local stakeholders and place human well-being and community resilience at the heart of wildlife conservation programs. With a scientific academic background, she earned a master's degree in Conservation Science from Imperial College (U.K.) in 2011 and completed a Ph.D. on snow leopard conservation at Beijing Forestry University (China) in 2015.

Baigalmaa Nyamsambuu
Operations and Finance Manager
Baigalmaa Nyamsambuu serves as Finance Officer at WCS. She earned her Master’s Degree in Agribusiness at the University of Queensland and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the National University of Mongolia. Prior to joining WCS Mongolia, she worked on World Learning Mongolia's LEAD Program, Green Gold project of SDC and “Mongolia V.E.T Net” NGO as Finance Officer for over 10 years.

Altanbagana Yunden
GIS Specialist
Altanbagana graduated as geographer from the Mongolian National University of Education and later obtained his master's degree from the Department of Geography at the National University of Mongolia.
He used to work as a researcher at the Institute of Biology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, for more than 4 years. During this time, his studies focused on habitat suitability and connectivity modeling for forest ungulates, primarily utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Batbayar Galtbalt
Wildlife Ecologist
Batbayar Galtbalt is a Wildlife Ecologist at WCS Mongolia. In this role, he focuses on understanding how wildlife populations, particularly ungulates and birds, are responding to global environmental changes. He completed post-doctoral research at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in 2024, focusing on the macro-demography of North American birds, following his Ph.D research at Deakin University, Australia in 2022, where he researched the flight behavior and population dynamics of migratory birds. In Mongolia, he has contributed to multiple conservation and research initiatives, including monitoring breeding populations of cranes, leading the saker falcon research and conservation project, implementing the Wildlife Picture Index project across several national parks, and conducting wildlife surveys in the Gobi Desert. His academic foundation includes a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology from the National University of Mongolia, completed in 2008.

Bayarmaa Yura
Local Coordinator
Bayarmaa Yura is a Local Coordinator at WCS Mongolia program of TMR project where locates in Dornogovi province. In 2012, Bayarmaa Yura earned a degree in Ecology & conservation biology from the National University of Mongolia. She worked as a Biodiversity and Tourism Specialist for the Environment and Tourism Organization of Dornogovi Province between 2019 and 2022. She has been a local representative in the province for World Vision’s Climate resilient communities project since November 2022.

Bayarmaa Chuluunbat
Wildlife Biologist
Bayarmaa Chuluunbat is Wildlife Biologist at WCS Mongolia program. She completed her Master's degree at the National University of Mongolia (NUM) with a thesis on the Seasonal Patterns of Dietary Overlap between Mongolian Saiga and Livestock. Additionally, she has experience as a plant ecologist at the Wildlife Science and Conservation Center of Mongolia (WSCC). In this role, she dedicated her efforts to studying the intricate dynamics between climate change and livestock impact on wetlands plant communities.

Bolortsetseg Sanjaa
Conservation Governance & Community Manager
Bolortsetseg completed her first Masters Degree in Biology at the National University of Mongolia, and her second Master’s Degree in Art Communication and Conservation Leadership at the El Paso University of Texas. She spent four seasons working as a wildlife biologist on the Mongolian gazelle research project. Between 2009-2012, she worked as the conservation biologist for the Mongolia Program and managed a social marketing campaign in Eastern Mongolia. In recent years her work has focused on engaging herder communities to conserve wildlife in a grassland ecosystem. Her most recent campaign was focused on improving hunting permit compliance in Eastern Mongolia through public awareness, education and behavior change activities.

Buuveibaatar Bayarbaatar
Habitat Connectivity Manager & Senior Scientist
Buuveibaatar is a graduate of the National University of Mongolia where he majored in biology and completed a Masters course in Zoology within the Department of Zoology. Buuvei came to the Mongolia Program in 2011 after spending 5 years working as a researcher for the Institute of Biology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences where he studied large ungulates such as Mongolian gazelles and saiga antelope. Between 2009 and 2011, he completed his second master’s degree in the Department of Environmental Conservation, University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS). Currently, he is a PhD candidate at the same program in UMASS Amherst and his study (dissertation) focuses on the distribution and dynamics of saiga antelope in western Mongolia. Buuvei’s research interests include wildlife biology, spatial ecology, and conservation biology.

Khash-Erdene Bayarsaikhan is a Communications Officer at WCS. Over a decade of experience in communications and journalism has equipped Khash-Erdene Bayarsaikhan with a sharp understanding of crafting impactful narratives. His career has spanned media outlets, international organizations, and NGOs, where he has championed critical social issues like human rights, sustainable development, and children's well-being.
An adept communicator across cultures and languages, Khash-Erdene has demonstrably increased visibility and garnered support for various causes. His leadership in managing communications strategies and content creation has yielded success in media outreach, advocacy, and public awareness. Khash-Erdene holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Journalism.

Narangerel Naranpurev
Community Engagement Officer
Narangerel Naranpurev is a conservationist with over 10 years' experience in Mongolia, specializing in natural resource management, community-based conservation, and ecological restoration. Her expertise includes endangered species protection (particularly Przewalski's horse), and she's worked with The Nature Conservancy, Zorig Foundation and Hustai National Park on various projects, including research and conservation planning. She holds a Master's in Environmental Science and a Bachelor's in Ecological Science, and is a graduate of the US State Department's Professional Fellows Program and serves as a regional leader for the Conservation Coaches Network.
