Position Summary: The Science Director advises all scientific research projects and science- based initiatives on conservation in the country, provides strategic and technical guidance to research and project teams and identifies collaborating scientific organization and scientists.

Required Qualification, Skills & Abilities:
- PhD in science related field, preferably Wildlife statistics or Wildlife Biology/Ecology, Conservation Biology/ related field, demonstrable proficiency in related tools such as study design, statistics, ecological modelling, spatial data analysis, among others and 10 plus years related experience.
- Proven exemplary record of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals of repute
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, coaching, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Ability to foster scientific collaborations with leading scientific experts of all disciplines in other institutes of repute.
- Experience in conducting original research and publishing in peer reviewed scientific journals.
- Experience in fundraising and writing scientific grants and research proposals.
- Experience in designing, organizing and directing multiple scientific projects and leading diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience synthesizing and integrating research findings and lessons learned.
Job Responsibilities:- The Science Director will report to the Country Director WCS-India.
- Advises the scientific research and initiatives vertical across WCS-India.
- Ensures rigour and standards of excellence in design and implementation of scientific protocols.
- Collaborates with various stake holders to ensure implementation of science-based conservation practices.
- Ensures dissemination of results of projects through publications in key scientific journals
- Identifies and recruits scientific talent to work across WCS-India’s programs.
- Manage the pool of critical scientific talent and develop next line of science leaders.
- Manages the PhD program of WCS-India. Also acts as a guide under whom doctoral candidates can be registered for the PhD program we offer and seek funding for such students
- Communicate scientific program results to major donors/grantors as well as other key stakeholders.
- Identify, and solicit major donors/grantees in support of scientific program activities and manage key relationships
