Marine life today is under onslaught from various factors – resource exploitation, wildlife trade, habitat degradation and climate change. Overfishing for consumption and trade has drastically reduced species populations across the oceans, while climate change induced rise in temperatures and carbon absorption has added to the damage of the marine ecosystem. WCS-India marine program aims to conserve the rich, unique diversity of India’s coastal habitats and seas, through a combination of protection of seascapes, community-informed management and stakeholder engagement informing policies.
