FAQs

May I borrow something from your Library collection?

Although our Library collections do not directly circulate to the public, we do loan out many WCS Library books and other resources through interlibrary loan. Please contact your local library to coordinate your request.

Is the WCS Archives open to the public?

Researchers, students, and the general public may request appointments to access the WCS Archives. Please consult our Research Use page and email us for more information.

How do I find out what the Archives holds?

The Archives is the institutional repository for the records of the Wildlife Conservation Society, which began in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society. Finding aids are available for many of our processed collections. Please consult our Finding Aids page for more information.

Do you hold the records related to the history of the Central Park Zoo, the prospect park zoo, or the queens zoo?

WCS began managing the City Zoos (Central Park, Queens, and Prospect Park) in the 1980s and 1990s. Records from the City Zoos created prior to WCS's management are held by the NYC Municipal Archives.

I've come across something that I'd like to give to the Library & Archives. Do you accept donations?

We are always pleased to learn more about items that may enhance our Library & Archives collections. Please email us for more information.
