Abstract
In June 2009, the Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) designated the first 33 species of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, prohibiting all hunting and trade in their parts. The list had been compiled by NEPA with the assistance of academic institutions, other governmental agencies and with technical advice provided by WCS, and had been presented to local communities through public consultations.
