Wild Places

Around forty years ago we began our work in Papua New Guinea in what was to be become the Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Today we continue our work in three major geographic locations: Manus Island, New Ireland, and the Bismarck Forest Corridor.  As virtually all land in Papua New Guinea is under customary ownership, conservation in Papua New Guinea means working closely with the indigenous landowners. As a consequence we work with local people in some of the least advantaged and remotest parts of Papua New Guinea.   Our approach focuses on finding and implementing participatory sustainable solutions which safeguard local communities, their natural resources, and their country’s biodiversity.
